We continue our study of Claudette Colvin and teens as agents of change.
Yesterday we discussed how Claudette’s sense of self was affected by her experiences and by her perception of what others thought of her.
Today, I had students sit one by one in front of the class with their backs to the whiteboard. Then the members of the class came up to write positive comments about the students on the board. The students turned around and read what their classmates wrote. Lots of smiles.
I think it’s important for teens to develop a positive sense of self. Today, I hope they realize how amazing they all are and that other people see this too! We will have more students participate in this exercise tomorrow.
